Fresh digs for Tony Wolf & Son

Tony Wolf & Son Printers is celebrating its move to a lighter, more sustainable operation with its new facility in Smeaton Grange, NSW.

The design and print outfit will continue to serve the Sydney metro, Narellan, Camden, Campbelltown, Ingleburn and Picton areas close to home as well as Australia’s population centres further afield from its smaller 480sqm premises, which it owns rather than rents.

Ian Wolf, managing director of the family-owned company, says the downsize from its 600sqm site, and moving to a better location, will perfectly suit the evolving business – which is now in its 53rd year.

Tony Wolf & Son has faced some tough times since the loss of a client worth one third of the business in 2011 – forcing it to shut down a four-colour offset press and make ten staff redundant.

Since then Wolf says turnover has returned to near pre-2011 levels, though margins remain low thanks to pressure from overseas competitors and online printers. He says the market has changed, and the company has changed with it: no client is now worth more than 10 per cent of the business.

Tony Wolf & Son currently runs a one year-old Fuji Xerox ColorPress 800 digital printer and a DocuColor500, producing short run jobs for small and medium businesses in its local area, including two local councils.
