PrintEx exhibitors tour new site

With exactly a year to go until PrintEx 2015 potential exhibitors are given a tour of the new location, the Sydney Olympic Showground in Homebush.

It is crunch time now for the big suppliers, who have to make up their mind about whether they will attend and if so how big their stand should be. Heidelberg which used to be the biggest exhibitor but pulled out of PacPrint last time may well not attend, while Currie, which is now the biggest exhibitor, is likely to be there, particularly as its sales director Phil Rennell is the PrintEx chairman.

Among big suppliers others on the tour and considering their options were Canon, Konica Minolta, Ricoh and Lanier – who will be one company by the time PrintEx comes around – Fuji Xerox, Kodak, manroland, Cyber, Agfa and Screen.

The usual show home of Darling Harbor is closed for three years for demolition and rebuild, forcing PrintEx along with other exhibitions out to Homebush. Spruiking the new Homebush site, Reed Exhibitions says it offers convenience with seven day a week 18 hours a day trains and parking for 10,000 cars, unrivalled corporate facilities including rooms at the football stadiums, and easy access for exhibitors.

Rennell says, “We welcome the change in venue as we look to expand our horizons. We have the option of more space if we need it. The venue has to suit both exhibitors and visitors and the Olympic Park certainly does that.”

The PrintEx board is comprised of three people from both GAMAA and the PIAA, with Rennell, David Procter from Konica Minolta and Craig Heckenberg from the supply side teaming up with Susan Heaney, Chris Segaert and David Leach from the PIAA side.

The show is slated to take place on May 13-15 next year. Last time out in 2011 it attracted 8,381 printers, with 72 per cent from NSW, 10 per cent from Victoria, 12 per cent from the other states and five per cent from overseas, mainly New Zealand.
