Roland dominates CIPPA Awards

manroland  awards  JDF
MAN Roland equipped printers have dominated the CIPPA Awards in the US for their effective use of JDF. Two of the three winners in the competition run by the International Cooperation for the Integrations of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4), were users of MAN Roland’s printnet Pecom press automation system. Kraft Druck finished first for biggest improvement in efficiency and customer responsiveness, while Bauer Druck was the winner in the most innovative use of process automation technology category.

MAN Roland director of new technologies, Hal Stratton, says the CIP4 Awards are no popularity competition, as to win, Kraft Druck had to achieve a ROI of 447 per cent, and Bauer Druck 220 per cent. “Those high levels of return on investment are indicative of how a printer can deploy printnet Pecom as part of a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) network that will increase his revenues and broaden his profit margins,” says Stratton.

Located in Ettlingen, Germany, Kraft Druck integrated its three 41” Roland 700 presses, equipped with printnet Pecom, with a Kodak Creo Prinergy prepress workflow and a Hiflex management information system (MIS) to streamline print production. The facility achieved a 447 per cent ROI over one year, valued at $783,360. The gain included a 9.6 per cent increase in press productivity and an extra hour of salable prepress time.

Bauer Druck, headquartered in Cologne, networked its Man Roland sheetfed presses to a Hiflex MIS and a Muller Martini PrimaPlus saddle stitcher. Its 220 per cent ROI in first year represented a net profit before taxes of $642,073. The benefits included reduced makeready time and the freeing up of more saleable hours.

The honourable mention winner, Berlin’s DBM, links two Roland 700s, one Roland 900 and another sheetfed press to a Hiflex MIS and a variety of finishing equipment.
