Printers still have time to enter in the National Print Awards, with the deadline for close of entries extended to February 15. National Print Awards chairman Scott Telfer says the extension will give printers who are only just returning from annual leave and the Australia Day weekend an opportunity to submit their selection.

“It’s a great opportunity for printers to use their success to promote further success in their business,” says Telfer. “Altogether it will be a night of excellence for Australia’s printing and graphic arts industries to celebrate.”

The National Print Awards celebrate excellence in the craft of printing in Australia, and recognise the special efforts of printers by awarding their best work. The Awards have been instrumental in lifting the standard of best work to its present level, and today Australian printers are recognised worldwide for their skills.

Entries are invited from any person or company associated with the creation, buying, production, reproduction, supply of materials or the actual printing in Australia of any item specified in the listed categories.

In addition to this year’s 31 medal categories, three sponsored industry awards will be presented – the Paperlinx Award for printing excellence by an apprentice; the Agfa Award for the most innovative use of imaging; and the Heidelberg Australia Award for excellence in craft.

“At the recommendation of the judging panel, we’ve added a new category this year – die cut presentation folders – to further widen the spectrum of printing-related activities in which the awards seek to recognise achievement,” says Telfer.

Newer types of print fulfilment, namely digital printing, are recognised, in both electrophotographic and inkjet technologies, which have their own dedicated awards. There are also awards for self promotion of a company and for innovation.

The 23rd National Print Awards will be held at The Ballroom, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Darling Harbour, on Friday May 12, 2006.
