An estimated 14,000 people were forced to leave the Seybold and oracle tradeshows being held at San Francisco’s Moscone Center on September 10 after several phone calls were made to local authorities, claiming that there was a bomb hidden in the building. The person, who it is believed has made similar threats in the past, contacted the convention centre about 1:20pm saying a bomb had been hidden "in a dark place" and would be detonated in an hour. Such a threat was obviously taken very seriously in light of the recent second anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The caller said that the bomb was in retaliation for bloodshed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Amazingly, the evacuation did not take place until 3:15pm, long after the time given by the caller for the detonation to take place.

Local authorities responded with a full search of the building and surrounding premises, complete with specially trained sniffer dogs. The all clear was soon given, although Seybold attendees were informed about 4:15pm that the show was closed for the day.
