Darryl Abotomey has been appointed by the board as an independent non-executive director of CPI Group. Abotomey is an experienced and strategically orientated company director and executive manager with over 30 years of experience in finance and general management roles in Australia and internationally, primarily in the paper and packaging industries. Abotomey’s most recent role was as a director of the Board and CFO of PaperlinX Limited from which he resigned in January 2006. During his six year tenure at PaperlinX, he was a key negotiator and driver in expanding PaperlinX into a global business with sales increasing from $1.5bn to over $8bn.

His professional and academic qualifications include Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne), Fellow Australian Society of CPAs and member, Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The CPI board says, in a statement, that it believes that Abotomey’s industry knowledge and skills will be of value in the implementation of the company’s strategic objectives. The appointment also increases the number of independent non-executive directors serving on the board.

As executive director and CFO at PaperlinX from 2000 to 2006, Abotomey led negotiations and the due diligence on seven significant international acquisitions, which grew the business substantially in its core paper distribution capabilities.

Prior to his role within PaperlinX, he spent 21 years in a variety of senior roles within the Amcor organisation. From 1997 to 2000, he was group general manager - Commercial and Trading, Amcor Printing Papers Group where he was responsible for the finance, administration and international trading business.

His work also included the demerger of PaperlinX from Amcor in 2000.

From 1996 to 1997, Abotomey was general manager – Victoria & Tasmania, Amcor Fibre Packaging. His responsibilities included management of the Victorian and Tasmanian corrugated box business, including reorganising the business to increase efficiency and improve performance.

In 1995, he was general manager Commercial at Amcor Fibre Packaging Australia where his responsibilities included the finance and management reporting for the Amcor Fibre Packaging business.

From 1989 to 1994, Abotomey was CFO at Sunclipse Inc, as US-based subsidiary of Amcor involved in the manufacture and distribution of Industrial packaging products.

Prior to that, from 1979 to 1989, he held a variety of finance-related roles within the Amcor organisation.
