Perth based Discus Digital Print has installed an Agfa Graphics Jeti 3020 Titan wide format press, the first in Australia and New Zealand.
Established in 1994, Discus Digital has a team of 34, it first looked at the Jeti 3020 Titan at the largest print trade show drupa.
Peter Benjamin, managing director, Discus Digital Print says, “About ten months ago we installed the Agfa 1224 FTR with white ink to supplement the FB6100 and we were impressed with the quality and reliability and when we saw the Agfa Titan at drupa it was something we had to have.”
He says, “We have been to drupa before and every time I am impressed with the size of the show, it is the best place to see new technology and also get a glimpse at what might be on the horizon.
Benjamin says, “Primarily the Jeti 3020 Titan will be used for the larger volume flatbed jobs on coreflute and signwhite, but we will also use it for point of sale and higher end printing.”
Currently a lot of Discus Digital work is printed onto photo style papers and then mounted to rigid substrates, the Jeti 3020 Titan will allow Discus to direct print on a lot of these jobs. Benjamin says the roll to roll option which he has on both Agfa’s will allow greater flexibility when doing jobs.
“At this stage our customers have been impressed with the smaller Agfa, so I see no reason that wouldn’t follow over to the titan.”
Benjamin believes the digital print industry is still on a rapid growth curve and to be competitive a lot of investment is needed, he says, “It’s not like the old days when one or two machines, either in offset or silk screening would cover most clients requirements, now you need different machines and technology for all the varying projects that we work on.”
Discus Digital has 12 machines; three HP Z6100 inkjets; HP XL 1500 3.2m wide solvent; HP L65500 2.6m latex; HP 5100 5m wide UV cured; HP L25500 latex; HP Indigo 5000 and 7600; Telios Dye sublimation printer; and two Agfa’s, the Agfa 1224 FTR flatbed and the newest addition the Agfa Titan flatbed.
