The entries for the 2006 Galley Club Awards for Excellence in Publishing and Print has been extended until Thursday, March 9. The awards are open to books, periodicals and non standard items published between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005 where the major creative content is of Australian origin.

The Galley Club of Sydney has been celebrating excellence in book and magazine production for 30 years, and this year’s awards will provide an even greater opportunity for publishers, repro houses and printers to showcase their work and honour their peers.

The awards in sheetfed books category are: casebound book, with RRP under $45; casebound book, with RRP $45 and over; limp sewn/perfect bound/saddle stitched book, with RRP under $20; limp sewn/perfect bound/saddle stitched book with RRP $20 and over; mono book, cased or limp bound, no price limit; duotone book, cased or limp bound, no price limit; limited edition book, no price limit.

In the web fed books section are awards for mono/duotone book, casebound, no price limit; and mono/duotone book, limp bound, no price limit.

For periodicals, the categories are: perfect bound, registered periodical up to 70gsm, no price limit; perfect bound, registered periodical over 70gsm, no price limit; saddle stitched, registered periodical up to 70gsm, no price limit; and saddle stitched, registered periodical over 70gsm, no price limit.

There is a non-standard items segment, in which entries are judged on the printing, prepress, binding, design and production. Categories for this are: non-retail publication; novelty book or stationery item; and digitally printed book (under 750 copies).

There is also an award given for Australian Printed Book of the Year, and Judges Commendation Awards for prepress and printing, binding, functional design and production.

The awards will be presented at a gala evening on June 23 at Rydges Jamison, Sydney.
