Heidelberg Australia New Zealand (HAN) has shown its support to TAFE colleges around Australia by donating $350,000 worth of printing equipment for the purposes of training and educating students seeking to be employed within the industry. In the past, HAN has supported student education by providing such equipment on loan. However, the company has recently determined to sign over the titles of these machines to the educational institutions where they are currently installed.

The arrangement will see TAFE New South Wales receive a CPC 1.02 Simulator, three Heidelberg TOKs, a Polar 92 ED and a Stahlfolder; three Heidelberg TOKs, a heidelberg GTO 52 and a Polar 92 ED for TAFE Queensland; and a Heidelberg GTO 52 for TAFE South Australia. TAFE Victoria will receive a CPC 1.03 Simulator, a CPC3 Plate reader, two Heidelberg GTO 52s, a Stahl K66 folder, a Stahl 52 and a polar 115ED; while TAFE Western Australia will receive a Heidelberg GTO 52.

According to HAN Print Media Academy manager Greg Grace, it is imperative for printing students to have access to current offset and finishing equipment.

"It is essential that students graduating from printing colleges and TAFEs are able to confidently operate the technology they will encounter in the marketplace thereby making a valuable contribution to their employer and reducing the on-the-job learning curve. For this to happen, educational institutions need to teach on current equipment," says Grace.

"We are strongly committed to the development of the industry, through the creation of new products and technologies and the training and development of people. Our substantial donation of equipment further demonstrates our commitment to the industry."
