KBA has completed its large format line up with the launch of the new KBA Rapida 164, which succeeds the Rapida 162 and 162a series.

The new press can print 120.5x164cm up to a maximum production speed of 15,000sph, with the high-speed package. KBA claims it is now the world’s second biggest sheetfed press manufacturer

Dave Lewis , director and general manager sheetfed presses KBA Australasia told Australian Printer, “The Rapida 164 is available now in Australia and NZ. This press is mainly suited to the folding carton, litho lamination, and display and poster market.”

Lewis says, “The Rapida 164 is now available with many of the same options as the medium format Rapida 106. Some of the main changes over the Rapida 162 are the SIS Sidelayless infeed, the high speed package for 15,000 sheets per hour. It has a DriveTronic SPC direct drive technology on the plate cylinders, allowing for simultaneous plate change of all plates in 110 seconds, while the cylinders are washing.”

The Rapida 164 has been described by KBA as the big sister to the Rapida 145, it has the ability to disengage the coating unit from the rest of the press to allow for simultaneous coating plate change, and the ability to change the coating unit anilox sleeve while the press is running and the press is now equipped with KBA’s own Vari-Dry drying system.

KBA says the new Rapida 164 can be supplied in all typical configurations for commercial, book and packaging printing, with one or two coater towers, intermediate dryer towers, a raised foundation for higher piles, accessory packages for lightweight papers, heavy board and corrugated, PileTronic, pile logistics, perfecting, and many further application-specific extras..
