PIAA wants say at Federal Election

The Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) is calling upon the industry to join its campaign to lobby politicians prior to the 2004 Federal Election. In a survey available on its website, industry members are being asked for their views on major issues including taxation, labour relations, training, dealing with the government, government regulation, and infrastructure.

Responses will be collated, analysed and presented to the major political parties for their response. The PIAA has begun its campaign early to ensure maximum input from industry. Political parties will also have adequate time to consider the issues and concerns highlighted by the industry.

Hagop Tchamkertenian, PIAA manager for industry and commercial policy, says, "Our strategy is designed to influence the pre-election policy formulation of the major political parties.

"We want politicians to know that our industry cannot be taken for granted. It employs more than 115,000 voters and has a physical presence in every electorate of Australia - including every marginal seat," he said.

"We encourage participation from everyone - the more feedback we receive, the greater is our bargaining position and ability to influence the policy platform of the next government of Australia."

The pre-election survey must be returned to Printing Industries by April 30 2004. Click here to download the survey.
