The 11th annual Pride In Print Awards ceremony is two months away, but today marks D day for entrants. Judging takes place today in Auckland for the biggest annual event in print. For those that got their entries in on time, it will mark the beginning of a nervous two month wait before the awards ceremony at Wellington’s Festival and Convention Centre on May 28.According to awards organisers, there has been a huge increase in the number of packaging entries this year. While it has been a growth area for several years, 2004 looks like being a particularly big one for packaging at Pride In Print.
Since the first awards in 1993, Pride In Print has grown to become the most significant point in the calendar for printers and their suppliers.
It has also borne witness to some dramatic change in the industry, and has had to adapt to this change to stay relevant itself.
This year will see continued recognition of that change, with the consideration of bar code quality as an attribute of entries.
Judges now focus only on their area of expertise rather than all categories. The number of judges continues to increase exponentially, as does the number of categories.
The digital category, for example, was first added to the awards in 1996 and immediately began sprouting sub-categories, such as CTP and large format.
