The Sydney Institute of TAFE’s annual Graphic Arts Centre Awards were held last night in a gala event in Sydney to recognise the achievements of the industry’s future professionals. Among the many awards, there were five stand out students who were not only recognised with awards, but also lauded by their teachers as possessing exceptional skill and talent.Darryl Brian, who works at William Brooks, was the winner of the Binding and Finishing category and is described by his peers as "an adult apprentice who is a very dedicated student and has achieved outstanding results over each year".
Katie Grives was the winner of the Prepress category, and is employed by the Land and Property Information Centre in Bathurst. She is described as "a cooperative hardworking student always willing to learn. She should do well as she pursues her career in the Printing Industry".
Fred Hosking employee Dexter Dionisio received the award for the Printing Machining category. His teacher says that "Dexter applies himself well and maximises his potential. His work is always presented in a professional manner."
For the Screen Printing category, Jason Massey of Acme T-Shirts came out on top. He is recognised for having "overcome great personal advertisity in his life to come back and do so exceptionally well in the course. Truly inspirational."
Craig Mercier, of Carter, Holt Harvey, and recent recipient of the LIA Graduate of the Year Award, continued his meteoric rise to printing stardom, receiving the Australian Printer Award for Outstanding Achievement, presented by Australian Printer journalist David Catt.
