Heidelberg New Zealand’s A3 Printscape demonstration series held over three days in October drew considerable interest from New Zealand printers.

Fifty-three printers took the opportunity of attending open-house demonstrations and a further 72 took advantage of the one-on-one demonstrations on offer.

South Island printers attending the Printscape sessions included seven Taieri Print staff who flew up from Dunedin.

Both the one-on-one and open-house demonstrations gave printers the opportunity of seeing Heidelberg’s latest prepress, press and finishing technology in action.

The new Speedmaster SM52 was put through its paces, as was the company’s new Polysetter automatic A3 CTP system, its A3 booklet maker and new Stitchexpert. Other Heidelberg products demonstrated included the Super Quick Quickmaster QM46-2 and Polar 92 programmable guillotine.

Jackson Tan, Heidelberg Asia Pacific regional business manager for A3 products attended the Auckland A3 Printscape. Also, in New Zealand for the series were Frank Suesser, senior manager, Heidelberg Germany, and Colin McKenzie, Heidelberg Australia Prepress manager.

Following the A3 Printscape Mr Tan said he was impressed with the numbers of printers who attended and noted that globally New Zealand printers are well ahead in installing technically advanced eight and ten colour presses.

Printscape’s major door prize of a Sony Cybershot digital camera was won by Ruby Lee of Ready Print in Auckland. She says she is delighted with her prize and both she and her husband Barrie were impressed with Printscape.

"Events like this are really appreciated," she says. "They keep us up-to-date with Heidelberg technology coming through and what the equipment can achieve. Printscape was a really good show. It’s not always that there’s an opportunity to see new equipment actually working and be able to ask questions."

Heidelberg New Zealand manager, Noel Priestley says the A3 Printscape was designed to allow printers to assess Heidelberg’s current line-up of latest A3 equipment in a relaxed environment.

He says visitors attending Drupa next year can expect to see further evolution of Heidelberg printing technology. " I urge anyone interested in such technology to attend Drupa. There will always something new to see."

However, he says Heidelberg is keeping plans for what it intends to showcase at Drupa under wraps for the moment.
