At PacPrint Canon Australia will support the Australian Red Cross by donating 350,000 pages of printing -- ranging from glossy pamphlets to bound training manuals -- produced on its stand. Canon is also donating space on its PacPrint stand to Operation Lifeblood 2005, the Australian Red Cross campaign to recruit 40,000 new blood donors by July 31 David Gradwell, national marketing manager of Canon’s Business Imaging Solutions Group "Showcasing every breakthrough in our print and graphic arts solutions is a huge challenge in its own right -- so at the end of a demanding five-day show, the temptation is to simply say ’our job is done’, sending off everything we printed to be recycled. But Canon’s presence at PacPrint will be different; we will be printing for the benefit of Red Cross as well as demonstrating our capabilities. There could be no clearer demonstration of Canon’s philosophy of kyosei, which translates from the Japanese as ’living and working together for the common good’."

The Australian Red Cross was formed as a branch of the British Red Cross in 1914 by Lady Helen Munro-Ferguson, wife of the Governor-General, nine days after the outbreak of World War I. Ever since, the organisation has relied on donations of money, goods and the time of countless thousands of volunteers to continue its work within Australia and abroad. The Australian Red Cross strives to be a leading humanitarian organisation, improving the lives of vulnerable people through its services and the promotion of humanitarian laws and values.

Jennifer Gibb, national director marketing, Fundraising & Communications, Australian Red Cross says, "The Australian Red Cross is delighted by Canon’s offer of floor space to promote our organisation’s work at PacPrint 2005, in addition to its generous offer to produce 350,000 prints for us over the course of the show. It’s through the generosity of companies like Canon that Red Cross can assist both Australians and our neighbours in Asia with humanitarian relief, world-leading blood donation programs, first aid training, community services and more. Everything that Canon is producing on our behalf at PacPrint would otherwise have been paid for by us -- at considerable expense."

This substantial donation in kind furthers Canon’s existing worldwide relationship with the Red Cross, which recently involved the donation of more than AUD$650,000 for tsunami relief, including:

# Canon Group in Japan: ¥30m yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society

# Canon Group in Asia: USD$80,000 to various relief organisations, including the Malaysia and Singapore Red Cross Societies

# Canon Group in the Americas: USD$100,000 to the American Red Cross Society

# Canon Group in Europe: €80,000 to the British Red Cross Society

# Canon Group in Oceania: AUD$50,000 to the Australian Red Cross Society
