Saxton Scholars set to be judged

Almost 900m students have registered to take part in this year’s Australian Paper Saxton Scholars design competition. Saxton Scholars is the leading annual Student Design competition in Australia. It was first launched in 2001 by Australia’s only paper manufacturer - Australian Paper, in conjunction with their premium uncoated corporate and design paper - Saxton. In previous years Australian Paper has received a large number of entries from all over the country from students studying Graphic Design or Visual Communication in years 1 to 4 which included some brilliantly creative thoughts and ideas. Last year’s competition was won by Marty Hungerford with his Umbrella Street Art which was exhibited in Melbourne Federation Square.

Sharon Jamieson, Australian Paper’s Printing and Industrial marketing manager says, “We wanted to set a really open brief which would inspire some great creative thinking. The purpose of Saxton Scholars is to give students both the opportunity to create something meaningful and also the experience of translating that creative thought into reality.”

The open brief was categorised into three thought-provoking themes: An object that helps us live, A story to be told, An experience to be had.

Saxton Scholars 2005 looks to be bigger and better than ever – with over 860 students registering to take part. Many TAFEs and colleges have absorbed the competition into their curriculum, which has resulted in a notable increase in entrants.
