The Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) presented the Western Australia Printing Industry Craftsmanship Awards (PICAs) earlier this month, held at the Burswood International Resort. The event was titled, ‘Prepare to be Amazed’ and the gathered printers from across Western Australia were certainly not disappointed. Hosts for the night were John McNaught and Dixie Marshall from Channel 9. The entertainment and room theme was all about the circus with fire jugglers, acrobats and trapeze. There were many sighs as the high wire act captivated the audience with those with a fear of heights unable to maintain their gaze.

Scott Print scooped the pool again this year with eight gold, four silver and eight bronze awards, followed by QDI Direct Press with two gold and two bronze, and Lamb Printers with one gold, seven silver and six bronze.

Apprentice of the year went to Darren Neindorf of West Australian Newspaper with Rob Sams the lucky winner of the door prize.

Paul Nieuwhof, PIAA WA regional manager, says, "Once again the Western Australian PICAs exceeded everyone’s expectations and was a great night for Western Australian print, packaging and visual communications industry."

This year’s Western Australian PICAs received exceptional sponsorship support from a wide range of companies and in particular the Paper Marketing Council (consisting of Spicers Paper, Boomerang Paper, CPI, Dalton Fine Paper and Edwards Dunlop Paper) which was the major event sponsor.
