Sun Chemical, the world’s leading manufacturer of printing inks and pigments, is to buy Envoy Communications Group Incorporated’s UK subsidiaries; ECG Holdings (UK) Limited, Watt Gilchrist Limited and Parker Williams Design Limited for approximately €19m ($NZ36.182 million). The three companies are leaders in UK packaging design and graphic arts industries.

Watt Gilchrist produces high quality graphics for the retail/consumer package goods packaging and publishing markets from concept to shelf/market, incorporating creative design, artwork, reprographics, and associated services such as creative retouching, colour management, packaging technology, mock-ups and pack copy.

Parker Williams Design is a brand development and packaging design company located in West London.

Envoy Communications Group businesses include the Watt Group, an international consumer and retail branding group of companies, and Envoy Capital Group, a merchant banking and financial services company.

Sun Chemical says the acquisition will enable it to better serve its customers in the areas of packaging development and colour management. The acquisition includes the ODIN packaging and digital asset management system.

Dr David Hill, president and CEO of Sun Chemical says: “This addition will greatly enhance Sun Chemical’s understanding of packaging market trends and customer needs.

“The acquisition of Watt Gilchrist and Parker Williams will allow Sun Chemical to provide superior service to customers in the packaging segment and other markets requiring sophisticated colour management.”

In New Zealand, Sun Chemicals is represented locally by its fully owned subsidiary Coates New Zealand.
