Southern Cross Awards 2003 open for entries The Packaging Council of Australia has announced that the annual Southern Cross Packaging Awards are now open for entries for the 2003 season. Now in their 18th year the Awards are open to all full and part-time students in Australia, and carry a first prize of $3000 and the opportunity to travel to an overseas design conference. The 2002 Awards drew some 450 entries.

The aim of the Awards is to stimulate, challenge and stretch. The awards will challenge students to create innovative solutions to packaging design. The final product will be viewed by sponsors, industry members, lecturers, students and the public at the Southern Cross Package Design Awards Exhibition to be held in Melbourne. Green Packaging to produce Earthshell bowls in Malaysia
Green Packaging SDN BHD (GP), and EarthShell Corporation have released details of GPís capital investment in equipment to produce EarthShell Packaging noodle bowls, designed with the environment in mind. Green Packaging, a licensed manufacturer of EarthShell Packaging, has also agreed to minimum 2003 sales targets in Asia. Green Packaging has committed more than US$10 million dollars for new manufacturing equipment to be installed in its Malaysian facility. Initial production units are being tested, and will be commercially ready soon, with the facility in Malaysia scheduled to be in production during the second quarter of 2003.		   Bobst to buy Metsoís converting operations
Bobst has just signed a memorandum of understanding about the acquisition of the converting activities of Metso Corporation, Finland. Metso Corporation is a supplier of process industry machinery and systems for the pulp, paper, rock and mineral industries.
