Central to the Heidelberg stand at PacPrint’05 is the Prinect Experience Tour, an interactive tour which enables customers to actually move through each step of the print production process with a demonstration job of their choice. The Prinect Experience Tour is modeled on the hugely successful format undertaken by Heidelberg at drupa’04. A “tour” commences every 15 minutes and follows a virtual print job through the production process from job acceptance to prepress, press, post-press and billing. The tour shows how print jobs can be produced efficiently and cost-effectively through the interplay between the individual Prinect components. Participants will see the job handled using an electronic job ticket through processes such as materials allocation, imposition, colour management and automatic set up for press and bindery equipment, through to final costing and invoicing."The unexpected high interest in the Prinect Experience Tours at drupa last year showed that an ever increasing number of printshops and media service providers were keen to learn about networking and standardisation using the new JDF industry standard. Here in Australia, it is clear that a vast number of print manufacturers large and small are looking to integrate their production systems with their management systems for a transparent and efficient production", says Colin McKenzie, Australian Product manager for Prinect & CTP. “The Prinect Experience provides the ideal opportunity to discover the benefits of this level of integration.”
Prinect records and optimises print-specific work processes from prepress to production and finishing. It enables production planning and control, integrates business-management processes with technical workflows and thereby ensures an end-to-end flow of data and work processes. The process is transparent throughout, thus providing precise data for commercial planning and control. All Prinect components are based on open standards such as PDF, PPF and JDF. JDF, the new, end-to-end industry standard for exchanging job-ticket or production and management data plays a key role in this.
Designed to communicate, record, and optimize processes from prepress to production and finishing, Prinect is a modular, scalable, and open system that can be tailored and continuously expanded. The Prinect workflow actually follows three parallel – yet linked – paths through the management process and the production process.
