HP has named the 12 winners of its Digital Print Awards 2012 - HP Sign & Display (Asia Pacific and Japan), recognising excellence in wide format printing and sign and display.

Martin Carballo, director, HP Scitex – Graphics Solutions Business, Printers and Personal Systems Group, Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific and Japan, says, “The HP Digital Print Awards for the Sign & Display industry salutes print service providers who are pushing the boundaries of print through innovation. We are excited to see some really outstanding submissions this year. We hope the award winners can find new revenue opportunities ahead with HP through their printing portfolio.”

In its third year, the competition attracted 82 entries from 13 countries across six categories: environmental responsibility, exhibitions and events, innovative application/unique media, outdoor advertising, retail point of purchase/point of sale and vehicle graphics. HP presented the awards at a gala dinner in Shanghai.

The award assessment criteria included innovation and creativity, marketing appeal, the best use of ink and colour, creative print application installation and overall aesthetics. Carballo adds, “This year’s winners have once again demonstrated how they can add greater value during the pre and post-press treatment process by introducing new elements such as engraving to create additional value for end users.”

Winner of the exhibitions and events gold award, Zhan Xiao Jun, Sales Manager, HP Digital Printing House Hangzhou Soyang Shop says, “This project was worth more than US$9m and we were tasked to produce a metallic exhibition showcase in a very short space of time. Thanks to HP, we were able to produce these materials and maintain a high print quality and color consistency. In addition, HP’s UV printing system enabled us to print on flatbed aluminium plates, a hard surface media that is both scratch-resistant and long-lasting. We have value-added in this process and have been able to deliver to our customers with HP.

“Our customers are mainly from the advertising and display industries and we aim to provide them with an unparalleled customer experience through perfect print quality and top-notch creativity. Our goal is to become Zhejiang’s largest high-end advertising printing company”.

Brian Tan, Senior 3D designer from Imagination Asia and Dr Lisa C. Wan, Assistant Professor of Marketing and International Business at Lingnan University presided as judges.
