It’s been described as the most exciting, progressive and creative event to ever hit the digital world – and the line-up is getting more impressive by the day. Digital fine art, or ‘Giclee’ printing, has made enormous advances in a very short period of time. As a result, the Australian Digital Art and Photo Technology exhibition (Adapt) is set to hit Sydney next month, with three international speakers already set to enlighten guests on topics such as image capture, image processing and manipulation, reproduction of art grade prints and the presentation of artworks.

International digital fine art expert Norbert Klinke, from German fine art paper manufacturer Hahnemuhle, is the latest addition to the program. Klinke will present a 45 minute seminar on how the 500-year-old paper mill has adapted to digital art and photography with its extensive range of digital fine art and Photo Rag Papers.

He is flying to Australia especially to attend the event and in his presentation will also address market statistics, reports on the digital fine art market in other parts of the world, new products Hahnemuhle is currently working on and where he sees the market headed.

Klinke is one of three international speakers secured to present at Adapt. UK-based Wayne Connolly, who established Innova Art Ltd, will speak on colour management, file storage and paper profiles. HP’s worldwide market manager for large format, Guayente Sanmartin, who will attend from Spain, will present on the future trends for large-format digital imaging.

In addition to the international speakers is a swag of Australian experts. The program will include:

Introduction by Garry Knespal, GASAA executive director;

The professional photographer in a digital world, David Roche, Silverpixel;

The state of digital imaging technology, Andy McCourt, Editor Print21 Magazine;

Certification and assurance of archival digital art and photography, Craig Heckenberg, Epson pro graphics unit business manager;

Color management, file storage and paper profiles, David Crowther head of Chromaticity Australia, (with Wayne Connolly);

The digital art and photo business of the future, Ross Coffey, Liveprint, (with Norbert Klinke).

Coffey’s Liveprint concept store will be on display at Adapt and is described as a highlight of the exhibition. Although it’s been under development for a number of years in Europe, Liveprint is a new concept for Australia, and Coffey is responsible for bringing it here. Liveprint uses digital technology to facilitate virtually instantaneous reproduction of a wide range of famous and rising artists’ work to paper or canvass at the press of a button, so art and photography can be purchased, printed and framed on-site, on-demand.

As well as a long line of exhibitors (listed below) and speakers, are the Adapt Awards to be announced at the Adapt cocktail party on July 21. Entries are open until July 15 for the Epson Award for Digital Imaging Excellence; the DES Award for Digital Fine Art Reproduction; the Hewlett Packard Award for Digital Photographic Reproduction; and the GASAA Award for the Young Digital Imaging Achiever.
