Apprentices around Australia have the chance to win a free trip to PacPrint 2013 thanks to Printing Industries Association of Australia which is running the Print is Alive promotion.

Print is Alive is to encourage apprentices to become advocates for the industry and to use their talents to communicate the theme via any of a variety of mediums.

Ian Walz, national program manager for the Apprenticeship Advisor and Mentoring Program, PIAA says, “The vibrancy of print and its versatility could be communicated in any format including multimedia such as video, YouTube, a web page, animation, PowerPoint, a brochure, flyer, written essay, artwork, poster, photography or other created image.”

Walz says, “The broader the spectrum of entries we receive, the better it is for print. The message that Print is Alive should not be restricted to any particular medium. We want the apprentices to communicate the message with the medium they are comfortable with and believe to be the most effective for this theme.”

Entries are not limited in physical size but are limited to a maximum 500 words and all entrants must be registered in the Printing Industries Australian Apprenticeship Mentoring program.

The winner will be flown to Melbourne from their home state (if outside Victoria) or transported locally and accommodated overnight for 1-2 nights as necessary.

They would also receive:

  • A guided tour of PacPrint by their Mentor on May 24
  • Lunch while attending PacPrint.
  • A ticket to attend the National Print Awards Presentation Dinner on Friday May 24.
  • Out of pocket expenses.

Apprentices who are not registered can do so simply by providing their details via the www.printingcareers.com.au website.

The competition closes on April 19 and will be judged by representatives from the printing industry. The winner will be notified in plenty of time to prepare for their trip.

Walz says, “The winning entry will be displayed on the Printing Industries PacPrint stand, number 1618, from May 21. The stand will also feature mentor staff available to discuss how our program can assist apprentices or help company managers to recruit apprentices.”

Entries should be sent to Ian Walz, Printing Industries Association of Australia, 25 South Parade Auburn, NSW 2144 or emailed to

Terms and Conditions are available from the www.printingcareers.com.au website.
