CyraChrome has announced the installation of an Agfa :Grand Sherpa 87 Universal digital printer at Clegg Media in Brisbane. The contract for the new :Grand Sherpa 87 Universal printer was completed at the Visual Impact/Image Expo in Sydney and the printer has been operating at Clegg Media since October.

Clegg Media is a well-known sign and display printshop specialising in outdoor advertising and point-of-sale display material. The company offers a range of printing services for items such as bus shelter signage, billboards and bus and tram display panels.

Proprietor Colin Clegg says it is being used primarily for producing high resolution, high quality work onto a variety of media including self-adhesives, canvas and vinyl.

“We spent about a month looking at various printers and tried out quite a few of them but what impressed us about the Agfa printer was its quality and ease of use,” says Clegg. “The other thing about it is that there are not many fumes associated with its operation. Some of the other printers can get quite smelly.”

The support and service provided by Philip Burrell in CyraChrome’s Brisbane office was also a key factor in helping to seal the deal.

“We’ve known the people at CyraChrome for a period of time and feel very comfortable doing business with them,” says Clegg.

The :Grand Sherpa 87 Universal printer is the largest model in its range, capable of printing on media widths up to up to 2286mm wide. Print resolution is variable from 360 dpi to 720 dpi up to 1440 dpi with a top speed of 40 square metres an hour.

The printer installed at Clegg Media is currently using Agfa’s Eco-Solvent Plus inks but will be converted to use Agfa’s new :Grand Sherpa Universal AM inks when they become available.

The new AM inks will provide improved colour saturation on a wide range of coated and uncoated media including vinyl, PVC banners, photographic papers, artistic canvas, backlit film, mesh and textiles. The fast drying and uniform gloss coverage will ensure high quality results even at the highest printing speeds.

As with the Eco-Solvent Plus inks, the new inks do not require any special ventilation requirements for their use in the workplace.

The Agfa :Grand Sherpa Universal printer is one of several digital wide format printers in the CyraChrome product portfolio that also includes the Octopus range of wide format UV printers from Grapo. Both the Agfa :Grand Sherpa Universal and the Grapo Octopus X4 were demonstrated at the Visual Impact/Image Expo along with the new Epson Pro Stylus 9800 inkjet printer.
