Print industry veteran Dieter Bensch passed away in the Blue Mountains, NSW, on June 24, after a long battle with cancer.
Well known in the label and packaging industry, Bensch moved to Australia in the mid ’80s and was first employed by Edwards Dunlop, and then Wellington Graphics. Later he set up his own business in converting technology, selling W&H wide web presses and Comco narrow web machines amongst many others.
He was born in East Germany and was orphaned at an early age, but despite his hardships he managed to complete a university degree after finishing a printing apprenticeship.
Whilst in Europe he worked in Germany, Holland, UK and Sweden. He was employed by Heidelberg Germany and later set up operations for machinery sales in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Bensch is survived by his wife of 45 years Erika, sons Axel and wife Sarah, and Martin and wife Sue, along with four grandchildren.
