The Sappi judging panel included Australian Greg Grace (third from left) who represented the trading region
Nine elephant trophies were awarded recently at the Sappi International Printers of the Year, held in Shanghai, China. This year the awards, which recognise and honour excellence in print craftsmanship, attracted over 6000 entries from all around the world.
Sappi CEO Jonathon Leslie says the 34 global finalists who gathered in Shanghai should be proud of their achievements.
“We recognise and celebrate the nine Sappi International Printers of the Year for 2005 as the best printers in the world in their chosen category,” he says. “They entered work reflecting superb innovation, technical mastery and creativity.”
Finalists were selected in the categories of: Annual Reports; Books; Brochures; Calendars; Catalogues; General Print; Magazines; Packaging and Labels; and Printer’s Own Promotion.
Although there were no Australian winners among the nine, Greg Grace from the Heidelberg Australia and New Zealand Print Media Academy was on the judging panel. Grace has been a judge for the awards in the past and represented the trading region.
Each winner was presented with a cast bronze elephant trophy, specially commissioned by Sappi from world renowned sculptor Donald Greig. The trophy symbolises Sappi’s South African heritage and the strength, determination and courage required of printers who strive for a Sappi International Printers of the Year Award.
