Japan’s Fuji Photo Film Co is planning a US$47.7m offset printing plate factory in the Netherlands according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The factory will produce CTP and other plates and is planned to commence operations in October 2006. According to the report, the Dutch factory will boost the global printing plate production capacity of Fujifilm to almost 20m sq m per month.

A leading player in the global CTP plate market, Fujifilm is understood to have a market share of around 30 per cent, its major competitors being Kodak GCG and Agfa-Gevaert NV. Fujifilm is seeking to increase that share to around 40 per cent.

Fujifilm is projecting that the global market for CTP plates will grow to around 270m sq m in 2007 from 210m sq m last year.
