The Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) will announce its Graduate of the Year at the upcoming Get Connected conference. The national award is presented biennially and the winner will receive a scholarship to the value of $15,000 comprising study and/or travel.

Once again, this year the award will be sponsored by the Graphic Arts Merchants Association of Australia (GAMAA), and acting president Alastair Hadley says promoting further study is an important way to invest in the industry’s future.

“Past recipients of the LIA Graduate of the Year scholarship have undertaken study tours overseas enabling them to gain a broader understanding of the issues that face the graphic arts industry today,” explains Hadley. “The exposure to other cultures, business environments and practices is invaluable in developing the future leaders of our industry in Australia.”

GAMAA has a long tradition of supporting educational based activities for the printing and graphic arts industries. Its own Leadership Scholarship programme initiated in 2000 has seen many industry professionals participate in workshops with a select number being awarded scholarships for further study.

“GAMAA’s educational philosophy of inspiring and challenging to create sound leadership skills is aptly reflected in the awarding of the LIA Graduate of the Year scholarship: says Hadley. “GAMAA is proud once again to support this award. We trust this year’s recipient gains full benefit from the opportunities presented.”

The Get Connected Conference will be held at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel from November 16 – 19.
