Goss gives first showing of new lineup
Goss International has revealed its extended product lineup for the first time, taking the opportunity at Ifra Expo – the first newspaper show since its acquisition of Heidelberg Web Systems. As one of the world’s largest press manufacturers dedicated to web offset printing, the extended Goss product portfolio now includes newspaper and commercial web presses for every print production scenario, as well as a wide range of mailroom and bindery finishing equipment.
Key highlights of the new Goss product portfolio for newspapers include the Goss Flexible Printing System. Visitors to the technology theatre on the Goss stand were updated on the progress of the Goss Flexible Printing System, first shown at drupa.
The Flexible Printing System unit has a specialised design in which the inker assemblies of each low height, four-high tower move apart on high accuracy rails, giving access to the heart of the press. This ‘slide-apart’ technology not only provides practical benefits for day-to-day operation, but also enables the application of new technologies, such as automatic plate changing and changeable formats.
A new product in the Goss portfolio is the Goss Mainstream, a double-width press which combines a four-by-one cylinder configuration with commercial ‘Sunday’ press technology, including gapless blankets.
With its recent acquisition, Goss International says it is extending its focus on delivering greater productivity, flexibility and efficiency to customers by providing a wider solution, including a full range of finishing and auxiliary equipment.
For newspapers, this finishing range includes stackers, inserters, conveyors, packaging and storage systems, wrapping equipment, side welders, bundle addressers, strapping machines and truck-loading systems.
David Stamp, Goss worldwide marketing director, says, "Newspapers have never faced such competitive market pressures. Now Goss can supply a complete line-up of solutions from the reelroom to the pressroom and into the packaging and distribution department. This formidable line-up will help newspapers increase the satisfaction of their customers by providing sophisticated, accurate and zoned products to targeted audiences - the ultimate scenario for creating value."
