After months of gestation, the first industry-based higher education award in Australia will begin its active life in July 2004 with the formation of the first student cohort. Places are now being offered in the Bachelor of Business (Graphic Technology) programme, born out of RMIT University’s International Centre of Graphic Technology, which is the former School of Printing in Melbourne. The industry, through a collaboration of print enterprises, peak bodies and educators, defined the desired graduate capabilities as a precursor to the development of this flexible, innovative and future-oriented programme.
It involves three years of full-time, or six years part-time study, using online resource support. It is planned for the starting cohort to be part-time based on the university’s Brunswick campus, with students expected to be drawn primarily from industry or industry customers.
This undergraduate programme integrates business, technology, leadership and interpersonal skill development, using supply-chain concepts and scenario thinking as two key themes.
As it is a full fee-paying programme, exiting students will carry no HECS liability. The programme is also designed for an early exit award, the Associate Degree-Graphic Technology after two years ( four years part-time) should students wish to break their studies part-way through, with a later return to the final year.
Further information and direct application forms may be obtained from programme coordinator, John Magnik on or email.
Applications should be received by the RMIT Office for Prospective Students by May 31, 2004.
