GMG, specialist in high-end colour management and proofing solutions, has appointed photographic and graphic design supplier, Kayell NSW, as its master distributor in Australia. Kayell NSW has been trading for the past 35 years as a supplier of goods and services for the professional imaging markets. Their activity also includes wholesale distribution for a number of photographic manufactures. Managing director, Johan du Preez, and sales and marketing director, Rob Gatto, have actively pursued and set up the company to service the print and the graphic communications markets. To this end, Kayell NSW now represents GretagMacbeth, GTI Lighting Booths and Colorvision. Their success is evident through Kayell NSW’s standing as Epson’s largest Photo/Design ProGraphics dealers. Gatto says that “with GMG, we have a more comprehensive portfolio that will enable us to become a compelling partner for the graphic arts market”.“In our commitment to service, Kayell NSW already has two full time staff dedicated exclusively to the graphics business. Theo Eleftheriades and Josh Harvey are both highly experienced in colour management and the needs of these demanding customers. They are also capable system integrators”.
Meanwhile, Kayell NSW has recruited the services of Michael Lithgow from Colourhead in Melbourne to spearhead its foray into the Victorian market. “Lithgow is acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading colour management experts and I feel he is the perfect person for us and GMG”, says Gatto who is understood to be looking for another experienced person for their expansion into the graphic arts market.
Kayell is in the process of appointing distributors for the GMG product line and is participating with GMG at PacPrint 05 in the “colour management precinct”. There will be live demonstrations of GMG’s CamFlow, an all-encompassing workflow solution for optimisation and separation of RGB data, imported, for example, from digital cameras.
Software Company, GMG was founded in 1984 and is located in Tuebingen, near Stuttgart. It offers high-end colour management for the entire graphic arts industry and to date, more than 4000 GMG systems have been sold across the industry spectrum from ad agencies, prepress houses and offset printers to international gravure printing plants.
GMG’s ColorProof colour management software system provides an accurate way of calibrating digital inkjet proofing engines to produce digital contract colour proofs, precisely matched to the printing press. ColorProof supports all standard spot colour systems with up to 64 individual colour channels, and is compatible with standard ICC profiles, which can be combined with GMG profiles.
In addition, GMG offers other specific proofing and colour management solutions, such as its DotProof option, to generate contract quality halftone proofs, using the original bitmap data. Specifically tailored to the needs of the packaging industry is GMG FlexoProof, which supports specific flexo file formats and includes a complete Pantone spot colour library, along with other functions.
Meanwhile, GMG InkOptimizer automatically reduces chromatic colours, thus achieving cost savings due to reduction in ink usage creating better print stability on printing presses.
