Stamping foil manufacturer Kurz demonstrated a litany of stamping solutions at drup, with two stamping machines and one printing machine from different manufacturers in operation on its stand, showing the versatility of its products on a variety of applications. On a Gietz FSA 870 Compact stamping machine, Kurz demonstrated its ‘Time to change’ project, stamping a 530x850mm format poster on 90gsm paper. This configuration corresponds to the standards used for label production and places a high demand on the machine, foil, die and machine setup, says Kurz. At the centre of the poster was a large pre-stamped OVD (optical variable device) in the shape of a watch. This OVD, called Trustseal, is manufactured in a vector-based process that is proprietary to Kurz and, according to the company, is characterised by its high brilliance and image sharpness. The prestamped design with the impressive dimensions of 67x90mm demonstrates five new security elements of the Trustseal New Generation.The SB 76 hot stamping machine from Bobst was also in use, stamping a 510x710mm poster. The ‘Amazing Hot Stamping Solutions’ poster already contained a laser foil with a rainbow colour play that has been overprinted. The poster was then decorated with four further stamping foils in a single stamping pass at the stand. One of the foils being processed will again be the new Laser Detect, for which Bobst, and Gietz, have developed detection systems that recognises the shim lines of this holographic foil and skip over them during processing.
On a narrow web printing machine, beverage bottle labels were decorated with metallised cold stamping foil in rotary application. Sheet processing of cold stamping foil, and the design effect of a large-area metallised foil, were also illustrated on a third, cold-stamped poster at the stand.
