LIA and JPE kick off year with Curries
The Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) NSW Division, together with the Junior Printing Executives (JPE) NSW Division held their first industry event for 2004 at the Sydney showroom of The Currie Group. The focus of this technology night, which was well attended by over 90 industry figures not including Curries staff, was the range of digital and lithographic solutions the company has on offer, as well as finishing and CTP.
Steve Dunwell, Currie Group NSW state manager, opened proceedings with an overview of the company and its product offerings, which include Shinohara, HP Indigo, ECRM, Esko Graphics and Horizon. Phillip Rennell, Currie Group Indigo Division manager, followed with a presentation of the HP Indigo digital press range.
Throughout the night, visitors were shown the various machines in action, with the centrepiece being the HP Indigo ws4000 digital label press, on display in Australia for the first time.
Rennell says, "Since it is a little difficult to head overseas to see the machine in action, we decided that the next machine that we brought over would be placed on open display at our Sydney showroom. This way, we can hold private demonstrations with label and print companies, and this tactic has been an enormous success.
"These one on one demonstrations give people time in front of the equipment. When witnesses on display at an expo it may be thought-provoking, but there is a need for closer evaluation of something like this, and this way we can give our customers a better feel for how it would work in their business."
Rennell reports that the machine has garnered strong interest since its first installation in Australia in December 2002, and that the display machine itself has also found a new home, to be installed at an undisclosed location in the imminent future.
The next LIA NSW event will be held at Labelcraft on March 30.
