The LIA National Biennial Conference is being hosted in Brisbane this October, with the theme “Focusing on the Future” and featuring international guest speakers, Dr Jack Goodwin and Robert Rosen as well as Australian speakers putting forward their view on the future of print. The venue is the Holiday Inn, Roma Street, Brisbane, where the conference will take place from October 14 to 16. The Holiday Inn venue overlooks Roma Street Parklands and is a short walk from The Airtrain Terminal which connects the conference to Brisbane Airport.

The conference will be officially opened by Queensland Premier, Peter Beattie and its packed technical programme includes presentations on “Designing Software for the Future” (Michael Stoddart, Adobe), “Digital Colour Management” (Michael Laird, Cyrachrome), “PDF-JDF-JMF-PJTF-PPF - Making Sense of the Jargon” (Bernie Hockings, G2 Solutions), “It’s My Money, So Who’s Taking Care of it?” (Stephen Bury, Mercer. H.R. Cons.), “Digital Technology for the Regional Printer” (The Free Trade Agreement - Help or Hindrance” (P.I.A.A.), “The Finishing Touch” (Alan Wilson, Avon Graphics), “Life After Pre-Press” (David Skillender, Colourcorp), “An Evaluation of Global Colour Standards” (N.S.W. Technical Division), “Pacprint 2005 - An Overview” (GAMAA Session), “Offset Printing - As it was and Now” (Greg Grace - Heidelberg Australia ANZ), “Wealth Creation” (Noel Whittaker, Whittaker Macnaught Financial Solutions), “Industry and the Environment” (Phillip Lawrence, Stora Enso), “School Based Apprenticeship Training” (TAFE Queensland).

The 2007 LIA Conference will be hosted by South Australia and a presentation on plans for the event will be made by Bob Byrne, president of the L.I.A. S.A. Division.
