The 2004 Heinz Watties Vendor of the Year awards ceremony was held recently at the Mission Estate Winery in Hawkes Bay with key Heinz personnel and representatives from 58 strategic suppliers in attendance. During the ceremony the three finalists announced for the packaging category were ACI Glass, Amcor Food Cans and Logan Print with Logans emerging as the winners, for the second time in the last four years. Murray Porter of the Heinz Watties procurement team presented the trophy for Packaging Vendor of the Year to Logans general manager, Matt Logan.“We are delighted to receive this prestigious award amongst so many top packaging suppliers. It’s a fantastic tribute to the entire Logans team”, says Matt Logan.
“The 2004 theme of “Better than Ever” served early notice to all suppliers that this year’s contest was going to be very, very competitive. We were challenged to adapt and lift the bar progressively over each quarter of the year long programme,” he says.
The Heinz Watties Vendor of the Year programme measures the performance of strategic suppliers across an extensive range of criteria including product quality, responsiveness, delivery reliability, R&D, technical support and cost. Performance results are reported on a quarterly basis.
In accepting the award, Matt Logan complemented his staff on their ‘can do’ attitude. “Our vision statement of ‘guaranteed gold medal performance requires us to consistently perform at the top level for our customers and deliver competitive advantages through a responsive, trouble-free supply-line. This independent award confirms that we are achieving our vision”.
He also paid tribute to the long-standing relationship between Logans and Heinz Watties, reaching back 25 years, which has always featured a high level of co-operation and teamwork between the companies and enabled the supply-line to perform so well.
