Lüscher, the manufacturers of the XPose! CTP systems, recently decided to put its money where its mouth is by proving its output abilities in a world record attempt, which it claims to have succeeded in. The attempt took place at the Flight Museum in Switzerland and involved a Lüscher Dual Xpose! 160 CTP device, using Fuji Brillia LH-PIE plates. Fuji FCT-E12 developer and Fuji FCT-E13 replenisher was used, along with Fuji Finisher FN-6E.

The total throughput for both eight-up and 16-up thermal plates is believed to be a world record, with 44 plates and 20 plates per hour produced respectively, according to Lüscher. For the attempt to be official, certain parameters had to be set in place. These included the necessity that the imaging method be thermal, all systems and consumables were commercially available, a resolution of 2400dpi or better be achieved, plates were ready to print and were produced manually with one operator, and that certification and documentation be completed by an independent judge.

According to Lüscher proprietor Hans Lüscher, the world record underscores the company’s focus on developing productive CTP systems.

"We’re very proud to have achieved these world records. Although a relatively small company, we are fully focused on the development of the thermal CTP process. As part of that commitment, we wanted to ensure that the productivity achievable with thermal plates be widely known and to demonstrate that production with thermal plates can be just as fast as that with violet technology," says Lüscher.
