The judging is over, and all is in readiness for the new-look 21st National Print Awards dinner, to be held in the ballroom at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, in March, with organisers urging those planning to attend to reserve tables early. According to Alf Carrigan , National Print Awards chairman, demand for tables has been high and that numbers are restricted to 900.Billed as the gala event of the 2004 Australian graphic arts calendar, the Presentation of the Awards will be staged on Friday night, March 19.
Comedian Vince Sorrenti and newsreader Sandra Sully will be the Masters of Ceremonies, with dinner music to be presented by a quartet from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Carrigan says the Friday evening Awards Presentation means that participants can enjoy a weekend in the harbour city.
"Instead of interrupting the business week, printers and their customers will be able to take the advantage of unwinding and networking with colleagues," he says.
Working with the new format, the judging sub-committee has created a streamlined awards list, with 34 categories, to be presented by a patron representative, as well as the three Sponsors’ Awards. The awards cover the gamut of printing, in terms of technologies and formats, including achievements in processes such as inkjet.
In the 21-year tradition of the National Print Awards, the Sponsors’ Awards will feature the Heidelberg Craft Award, the Agfa Award for the Most Innovative Use of Imaging in Printing, and Australian Paper’s Award for Print Excellence Achieved by a Third or Fourth Year Printing Machinist Apprentice.
"This will be an evening for everybody associated with the printing and graphic arts industry, from the major players to the businesses with four-to-ten staff," says Carrigan.
Doors to the Ballroom will open at 6:30pm, with drinks on arrival and an opportunity to view the work of this year’s finalists. The Presentation and Dinner will start at 7:30pm.
The National Print Awards Committee, which has sent out invitations to finalists, says tables of 10 may be reserved, providing that all names and payments are received in the same application for reservations. Registration is $135 each (includes GST).
Bookings of fewer than 10 will be seated in tables of 10. If attendees would like to sit together, these bookings should be made in the same envelope.
