Steve Gedye was a man who could make anyone laugh at any time. The life of any party, Steve who died recently aged 50, had a ready wit and always had a joke for every occasion and "it was always a true story. He was always highly regarded," says Philstic director, Phil Fewings.

Steve was the production co-ordinator for Philstic Labels Ltd, and had just reached his long service entitlement, making him only the second person in the 24-year history of the company to reach that milestone.

Phil says his sudden death has been a great loss to the firm both professionally and personally. Following his death, the company held a small memorial service at work for its 36 employees and has since named a work-place pool championship cup after him.

Steve joined Philstic in 1983 to run its large reel-fed machine, but worked his way into management eventually taking care of logistics including stock purchasing, stock control, estimating and production.

"He was a 100 per cent worker, he knew everything about the company and how it worked. He was a very accurate estimator, and they are as scarce as hen’s teeth," Phil adds.

He is survived by his wife Rachel and two adult children.
