Pioneering workshops give boost to NZ flexo
The New Zealand Branch of the Australian Flexo Technical Association (AFTA) held the first in a series of workshops in June to provide information and updates to the flexo industry. The workshops are aimed at those new to the industry and those seeking a refresher on the latest thinking who come into daily contact with engineering and consumable technologies.
The June workshops featured presentations by 3M New Zealand and Apex Anilox BV, both demonstrated their commitment to providing New Zealand industry the benefits of their international experience and extensive R & D programmes.
The theme of the workshops sought to address the four challenges that face the modern flexo industry being; a need to achieve Higher print quality and consistency, use of thinner and larger plates, productivity improvements and the advent of high speed 10 colour presses.
3M explained how improvements in mounting tape technology has addressed these challenges with the development of Micro channeled liner and embossed adhesives.
Sam Seow of Apex Anilox BV demonstrated new concepts in anilox technology and outlined the respective benefits of Chrome versus Ceramic. He explained in detail, a unique new cell configuration that delivers more consistent dot holding over a longer lifespan of the anilox roller.
The Workshops will become a regular event. This being the first, took place in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch. The next, in October will cover these regions and include Wellington.
The Australian Flexo Technical Association is a not for profit organisation which depends on the financial support of its corporate sponsors.
The role of the AFTA in New Zealand is to provide a platform for the free exchange of knowledge and ideas plus promote learning and growth opportunities for all those involved in the flexo industry.
Every year, the AFTA holds a forum with a wide cross section of presenters ranging in topics from technical, commercial to legislation. Normally held in either Terrigal, NSW or Melbourne, Victoria and this year to be staged in Auckland, spanning two days August 18-19.
