Melbourne-based print house Printgraphics has installed the first of the new model Osako "Tener" Saddlebinder to arrive in Australia, coupled with an in-line OMG "Cucciolo" Compensating Stacker. Both machines are supplied in Australia by CPI, and are already having a significant impact on the Printgraphics’ finishing department. The saddlebinder has make-ready, controlled from a touch screen panel. It is configured with six feeders and a cover feeder, and has a maximum speed of 12,000 cycles per hour. Sequential start-up and shutdown is standard, and a host of new quality control features are fitted.

According to Ray Keen, Printgraphics managing director, his company was suffering from a bottleneck in its finish department due to the aging, 15 year-old Osako it was previously running. Impressed with the how well it had served him, he decided to opt for the latest model.

"It has certainly streamlined our finishing department. We are now probably twice as productive as we were before. The other decision behind us choosing the Osako was that it offered us the best value for money," says Keen.

Keen says the features that appealed especially to him in selecting the Tener are the ability to tilt back any feeder thus allowing hand feeding of very difficult products that are impossible to feed automatically, and the new rotary feeders with double grippers, which provide smooth consistent high speed feeding of a very wide range of stocks.
