TAFE graphic arts prepress graduate Andrew Rajcany has been recognised as the State’s top rising star across the many trade professions, being awarded the Excellence in Trades Skills special award, at the 2003 NSW Training Awards, held on August 28. Rajcany, a graduate of TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute’s Certificate III in Graphics Arts (Pre-Press), competed against apprentices from both public and private education institutions across NSW to win the award, which was sponsored by the Labor Council of NSW.Rajcany says, "Winning this award has come as a huge surprise, but it really caps off what has been a fantastic experience at Sydney Institute".
"Studying at the Institute has given me a solid foundation for working in the printing industry. The positive environment provided by my teachers made my apprenticeship enjoyable and has given me a rewarding career in the diverse printing industry. I am grateful for the first class training I had at TAFE and I now look forward to giving something back to the education sector."
Rajcany is currently working as print services coordinator at the University of Western Sydney. "I see enormous opportunity in delivering educational material to students via various technological based solutions. I hope to be working on such systems in the near future," says Rajcany.
Sydney Institute has a wide range of courses and qualifications available to the Printing and Graphics Arts industry, from entry-level certificates, right through to diplomas and specialised short courses for industry professionals wanting to upskill. Applications for semester 1, 2004 courses close on October 31.
