North America’s largest printer, RR Donnelley & Sons Co, is said to have held talks to be bought in a leveraged buyout. Donnelley had sales of US$8.4bn in 2005 according to ratings agency, Moody’s, and on Monday, Crain’s Chicago Business reported that the company had entered talks with a group of private-equity firms. Chicago Business said there had been speculation that the private equity firms pursuing Donnelley included Madison Dearborn Partners LLC, though neither RR Donnelley nor Madison Dearborn Partners commented on the reports.

Headquartered in Chicago, RR Donnelley has a market capitalisation of around US$6.6bn and is the world’s premier full-service provider of print and related services, including business process outsourcing.

Founded more than 140 years ago, the company provides solutions in commercial printing, direct mail, financial printing, print fulfillment, labels, forms, logistics, call centres, transactional print-and-mail, print management, online services, digital photography, colour services, and content and database management to customers in the publishing, healthcare, advertising, retail, technology, financial services and many other industries.
