Sun Chemical, the world’s largest producer of inks and pigments, yesterday appointed Gerry Schmidt to PrintCity’s Advisory Council, the governing body of the strategic alliance that connects global graphic arts expertise from over 40 independent companies.Working as the European Heatset Technical Service marketing manager at Sun Chemical and based in the UK, Schmidt has more than 20 years’ experience in the printing and associated industries. He has played an active role since PrintCity was formed in 1998 and is already the chairman of the alliance’s Publishing, Commercial & Web Activity Group.
Schmidt is also jointly leading with fellow Sun Chemical employee Paul Casey, a PrintCity cross-process project group that is evaluating how newspaper printers can increase revenues, in a project announced at IPEX called Value Added Printing of Newspapers (VAPoN), where first results have already been shown.
“My appointment reaffirms Sun Chemical’s commitment to PrintCity,” says Schmidt. “I look forward to playing an even more active role in the alliance’s future, helping to develop cross-industry expertise that will benefit the partners’ customers in the long run.”
