Asia’s top newspapers and magazines received glittering prizes at the second annual Publish Asia Awards in Kuala Lumpur. Eighteen awards for printing, design, digital photography and infographics were presented at a gala dinner in the Malaysian capital, attended by hundreds of newspaper and magazine executives from across the region.The Straits Times of Singapore scooped three of the prizes – gold awards for Best in InfoGraphics and Best in Design, as well as a bronze award for photographer Wong Maye-e for Best in Digital Photography in the sports category.
The Singapore paper’s Chinese sister daily, Lianhe Zaobao, picked up the Best in Print gold award for double-width presses. The silver award went to the Deccan Herald of India, published by The Printers (Mysore).
The same publisher’s daily, Prajavani (Hubli edition) took the gold ward for single-width printing. And Mid-Day of Mumbai, India took the silver award in that category.
In the magazine field, Wine & Dine, published by Panpac Media of Singapore, won the Best in Design gold award.
In the digital photography awards, the gold award for news went to John MacDougall of Agence France-Presse in India. Bazuki Muhammad of Reuters in Malaysia took the gold award for sports, and Dimas Ardian of Getty Images in Indonesia won the gold award in the features category.
The awards, a highlight of the annual Publish Asia conference and expo, were sponsored by MAN Roland Druckmaschinen of Germany, Epson Singapore and Nikon Singapore.
Publish Asia is organized by Ifra Asia, the Singapore arm of Ifra, the world’s leading association for newspaper and media publishing.
