New apprentices and their employers can access the government’s apprenticeship re-boot subsidy worth $1000 through the Communications and Media ITO.
The first 10,000 new apprentices who enrol across all trades from March 6 will get the $1000 grant towards their tools and off-job costs. Employers will receive $1000 for each apprentice they take on.
The subsidy is available to new apprentices signing on to a Level 4 qualification of 120 credits or more. It also applies – for 2013 only - to Modern Apprentices (aged 16-21) if they enrol in a Level 3 or 4 qualification. Apprentices need to be in training under their new agreement for 90 days before they can apply for the subsidy.
John Cudby, manager at CMITO, says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses employing apprentices in the print, packaging and signmaking industries. We strongly encourage businesses to take advantage of this subsidy – get in quick because it only applies to the first 10,000 apprentices across all trades.
“Not only will your business and apprentice benefit through the increased level of skills and knowledge that a qualification provides, it will cost almost half the price. The subsidy will be administered through CMITO, so get in touch with us now to get the ball rolling.”
To comply with the 90-day training agreement rule, the earliest date that new apprentices and their employers can apply for the subsidy is June 4.
Initially the subsidy was to apply to new apprentices signing on from April 1 but strong demand has brought the start date forward. Recent changes to the apprenticeship training system mean all new apprentices receive additional support while completing their qualification, including an extra on-site visit each year (four visits in total).
CMITO offers a wide range of qualifications for the print, packaging, journalism and signmaking industries. CMITO provides all training workbooks, support and advice, arranges assessments and certificates.
