John Logan (of gold medal winning Logan Print) has claimed the top prize as Gisborne Master Builders House of the Year.
His son Matt Logan accepted his Pride In Print award the same night as his father John accepted the award as owner of the House of the Year.
Matt Logan says he is pleased with the printing industry recognition in the firm's two gold medals and a highly commended for their printing quality on in-mould labels for ice-cream containers.
Logan Print has invested millions of dollars into the technology to print these labels, which now account for two-thirds of the company's business.
They are now one of the largest suppliers of in-mould labelling in Australasia, with markets as far away as South America.
Matt says the high dollar was great for investing in their new equipment, but as they now needed to pay for it with exports, it was starting to hurt - so they were looking to sell their way through the high dollar.
"The New Zealand market alone is not big enough to support our capacity, so we have been focused on finding new markets overseas right now."
Of the gold awards, he says: "You submit the labels and they look over them with a magnifying glass for any imperfection at all - any mark or dot. The registration, the line-up of the different colours has to be perfect. It's not as easy as it sounds."
The labels are not printed on paper and glued on to the lid, they actually go into the mould while the lid is being made, so become a part of the packaging.
Because the labelling is made from the same material as the packaging, they are more durable and can be directly recycled.
