Professional photographer Alfred Gregory managed to capture the images of Sir Edmund Hilary’s inaugural Mt Everest climb. Although he managed not only to record the expedition but also to make the trek to 8500m, he still gives Kodak much of the photographic credit. He described the history making moment as a “complete coup for Kodak, completely, utterly, for both cameras and film”. With him Gregory took a Kodak Retina II, Kodachrome film and now, the images are being printed on Kodak Endura paper for an exhibition.Being be held in St Kilda, Victoria, from July 14 to August 14, A Retrospective is being launched by Kodak in partnership with LabX.
“The excellence of the Kodak Endura paper is sensational,” says Gregory. “It is exciting for me to have an exhibition after so many years and to see film that was shot such a long time ago, so beautifully reproduced on top quality paper.”
The paper boasts archival qualities (200 years) and presents a range of flesh tones and a metallic quality which communicates the luminance and reflectivity of snow.
Kodak will also be showing off its photographic wares at Adapt, the Australian digital art and photo technology exhibition.
Adapt is the first event to cater to the emerging market for digitally reproduced artworks and art photography, with digital fine art printing a highlight of the exhibition.
Adapt will also address image capture, image processing and manipulation, the reproduction of art grade prints and the presentation of these artworks.
The exhibition will be held at Fox Studios, Sydney, from July 21 to 23.
