In conjunction with Fujifilm NZ and Mutoh Australia, the NZSDA has organised a hands-on workshop for owners and operators of large format printers or anyone looking at making a move in this direction.
Timed to coincide with the Pride In Print Awards, this daytime workshop will take place in Wellington on Friday May 20. Wayne Gates, category manager for Digital Graphic Systems at Fujifilm NZ, emphasises that owners of all brands of equipment should attend the workshop. He says, “The workshop is designed to be informative and educational, irrespective of the brand of printer that attendees employ. This workshop will provide knowledge that will permit more accurate and profitable operation of the equipment.
Colour profiling in practice will feature as a session on the day. Gates says, “Here is an opportunity to learn how to profile your printer, why you should and when. In this session you will not only go through the process of colour profiling a large format printer but how this can reduce your production costs or increase the speed and productivity of your printer. You will learn about both the Art and the Science of colour profiling and get hands on experience with profiling tools like Mutoh’s new spectrophotometer: the Spectrovue VM-10. While Mutoh equipment will be used in the work groups on the day, you can apply the knowledge gained to any large format printer. and owners of all brands of equipment are invited.
Gates says the interactive session on greater productivity for greater earning power will apply theory to practical application. He says, “You can learn what causes banding and other print quality problems and how to eliminate them. Simple, standard techniques and adjustments that will get you producing better prints faster. The faster you can make your printer print, the greater your earning capacity from the same investment.”
He adds that a panel of expert operators and equipment specialists will provide an open forum to discuss their experiences and provide attendees with a chance to discuss any issues around large format printing. The open Forum will include NZSDA president, Nick Baty and Marcus Adler from Mutoh, along with a technical expert from Fujifilm NZ and other industry people who will look at failures and successes in large format print that attendees can relate to.
The registration cost for the workshop of $35 covers coffee, tea and lunch. Registrations received before May 16 go into the draw for a door prize. To register contact Wayne Gates at
