Bauer AG (KBA) has won the Gravure Association of America’s "Gravure Process" category to carry off the coveted Golden Cylinder Award in honour of its development of a new calculation program that allows production parameters to be preset. The annual golden trophy awards are in recognition of the best equipment and processes in each segment of the gravure printing industry.KBA beat more than 100 firms from the USA and the whole of Europe to win the award.
The company says that many of its gravure presses already come fitted with a presetting system.
“The new program enables operators to preset the web press even faster and more efficiently to production-specific parameters.”
The innovation has allowed KBA to eliminate what used to be the essential but very time-consuming manual inputting of parameters for new production jobs.
“Where systems are networked, data can now be calculated on upstream workstations and sent directly to the web press. This tool is extremely advantageous for printshops which have a constant turnover of jobs as it delivers substantial improvements in makeready times and spoilage in modern gravure web presses,” a KBA spokesman says.
