Alcan acquires Australian businesses
Global aluminium and packaging company Alcan has acquired Australian capsules and closures distribution business, Classic Packaging and Nellie Products. Alcan Packaging President and CEO Christel Bories, says the acquisition is a step further in Alcan’s strategy of expanding its geographic footprint into growing and competitive economies.
"Our leading position in closures is built on innovative and high quality products, such as Stelvin, which is growing in popularity thanks to its performance and convenience," says Bories.
This acquisition builds on Alcan’s establishment of a Stelvin production facility in Australia. Located in Adelaide, the state-of-the art manufacturing facility, named Alcan Packaging Capsules of Australia, will begin production of Stelvin’s complete range of closures in January 2006.
These announcements represent Alcan Packaging’s investment of more than AU$20 million in expanding its capsules and closures business in Australia.
Both Classic Packaging and Nellie Products are subsidiaries of Foster’s Group and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
